Our History
In 1857, Clinton County opened its first County Home in Charlotte, Iowa. Growth occurred in stages to accommodate the needs of the county and to comply with new state regulations. In 1974, the name of the facility was changed to the County Health Care Facility and the building underwent significant renovations including a new addition, allowing for 194 licensed beds. Individuals with a variety of special needs and ranging in age from 21 to 93 received services at the Charlotte facility.
Realizing a need to secure continued disability funding, the Clinton County Board of Supervisors decided to privatize the county’s facility and sought the support of Community Care, Inc.
Community Care, Inc. (CCI) was established in 1988 as a private, non-profit organization. CCI began services as a Residential Care Facility (RCF) for individuals in need of supported services. The agency continues to expand programs and services for individuals with disabilities in Iowa, including Residential Care Facilities (RCF) in Jones, Marion and Chickasaw counties; Intermediate Care Facilities for the Intellectually Disabled (ICF/ID) in DeWitt, Iowa; and community based services in Clinton, Scott, Jones, Jackson, Cedar, Linn, Howard, Marion and Chickasaw counties. CCI programs and services assist and support individuals with disabilities as they move towards independent living in the community.
